Our new pet?

This critter has decided to move in with us recently. What shall we call it?

(Click on the picture for a larger version... if you dare...)

In fact, what is it? I mean, I know it's a spider, but...

It doesn't seem to do much but wander around, yawning and stretching...

and occasionally picking its nose...

Seems to have taken a shine to us, though. Maybe it's the reincarnation of Mei-Mei.

She's beeeeyoootiful! One thing about wild critters as pets: you wonder when they're not in their usual spot. Like, where DID that spider go?

Perhaps he's the brother of the spider who met his end in my apartment last year. I admire folks who are able to withstand sharing their living space with creepy crawlies, but alas, I am not one of them!

Here's the Wiki on this guy, by the way: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparassidae

Thanks for the link, "Frostburg"! (I'm far from Martinsburg, myself.) I'm glad to find out a bite from this critter will probably only result in localized pain that will last only a day or two. That means I can still chase it around, taking pictures of it!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Susan. So far, though, I think it's too shy to try to crawl into our bed... (I hope!)

That thing rocks. We do catch and release with spiders (all of whom we name "spidey").

Well, I might have to do something like catch-and-release with this young'un pretty soon. Last night it waltzed into the bedroom and I had to throw a slipper at it to chase it away.

Spiders. You talk to them a little and suddenly they think they're your best friend...
