Guess I'll have to stop drinking Pepsi for a while...

...at least until they get these pictures of Rain off the cans. I'm afraid my 渴望 isn't 突破ed by his presence. (Bleah!)

Where'd all the Dr. Pepper in this town go, by the way? Someone at Finga's told me they couldn't import it anymore...

  1. OMG. They have porn on pepsi cans in Taiwan?!

    Of course, I am a prude. . . but still. . . that's a bit much.

  2. Talk about porn, you should see this ad for "Whisbih Machi Coconut Milk" that they've been playing on TV for months. (I don't know if linking to this makes me a prude or... something else?)

  3. (I should mention for folks who don't know Chinese that the Chinese word for milk [奶] has several meanings...)

  5. Speaking of Dr. Pepper.... recently when Hui-Chen and I visited the US, i introduced her to Dr. P. that is all she drank for the duration of our trip! we have never seen it in Taiwan. how about one of the knock-offs like Mr. Pip?

  6. Haven't seen that either.

For a while you could get Dr. Pepper at Tesco (which has now turned into another Carrefour *&@#($(@!!). Finga's Base Camp had it for a while, but the last time I went there a few months ago, they didn't have it "anymore". (Someone check for me, OK? I'm too lazy.) There's that Uncle Jimmy's place in Beitun, but I don't know if they have it... You used to be able to get cans out of a pop machine at Morrison, too, if I'm not mistaken. In Taipei, I saw it at that supermarket at 101. (Forgot the name---Jimmy's?)

(OK, I know, I'm a Dr. Pepper addict. Someone want to e-mail me some Dr. Pepper?)

  7. Oh, and MT--send me the bill. (I figure it's worth it, considering all the traffic you send my way...)

  8. My usual source for Dr Pepper (no period after "Dr") is Mei Chen Siang (Mei3 Zhen1 Xiang1 / 美珍香) at #87 Chungshan Rd. (Zhongshan / 中山路) (toward the train station, just off of Tzuyu [Freedom] Rd. [Ziyou / 自由路]). They even have root beer there!

A call to Mei Chen Siang just now (04-2222-4258) confirms that they have both regular and Diet Dr Pepper! I forgot to ask, but I think it's NT$30/can.

Pepsi? Blecccchhhhh! I luv that "Whisbih Machi Coconut Milk" commercial, though. "麻吉ㄟ奶!麻吉ㄟ奶!" Notice the further double meaning provided by the Taiwanese pronunciation of the third word, transforming "椰" into "的." Mwajee/much-y + 的 + 奶 = gelatinous/bountiful 奶!

  9. Mei Chen Hsiang--of course! How'd I forget it?... (Well, I know why--after the one on Meicun Rd. disappeared, I kind of forgot they existed).

You're my hero, Tim--even if you do like that Whisbih commercial...

    (Self-correction: the store at 101 is Jason's, not Jimmy's...)

  11. Thanks for decoding "麻吉ㄟ奶!麻吉ㄟ奶!"
Now I know the Chinese language spoken in Taiwan is not your father's Chinese. I left Taiwan in the early 70's and have to learn the new expressions.
