Eric Gardner on contingent faculty

My Ohio University grad. school classmate Eric has an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer about part-time labor in U.S. colleges and universities (and in particular, Ohio). It's an issue that probably a lot of people in academia are aware of (particularly in English departments or writing programs), but perhaps people outside of academia aren't as aware. Hopefully Eric's article will open a few eyes.

I'm not fond of the on-line edition's headline, though. I didn't mean to suggest (and don't think I actually say this in the essay) that part-time teachers do "most of the work." They do a lot of work, but clearly it is different work (or a different balance of work) than full-time, tenure-track faculty do. The print edition headline reads "Working harder for less pay." I had proposed "The Other Six-Figure Faculty Pay."--ERG

Well, leave it to the editors to mess up your article with a misleading headline...
