Mei-mei (妹妹), 1994-2006

Mei-mei passed away today at about 3:00 p.m. after complications from diabetes. She taught us a lot about living and dying, and we're sure she's in a better place now.

I only knew Mei-mei through you and your blog, but I know how hard it is to lose someone so close. Maddie, Harley and I are thinking of you both.

Mei-mei is a lucky dog with the love and care of such a loving family like you.
She looks adorable as a puppy and very elegant when she grows bigger. From the photos, I can realize why “she prefers to play with human beings.”
Her blissful smile must have shown the valuable memories living with you and she will cherish the days spent with you wherever she goes.
Farewell, Mei-mei, although I only heard of you and could only see you from the photos. You still impress me a lot.
You’ll live in the heart of those who loved you and missed you permanently.

Thanks, Susan (and Maddie and Harley), Michael, and Mabel. Thanks also to the folks who have e-mailed us privately. Your comments make Mei-mei's passing a little more bearable (or a little less unbearable, perhaps).

Mabel, you're right that she loved people. The year before you started at Tunghai, I brought Mei-mei to my night school Freshman English class. She got so excited about all the people that she...ummm... left some of her excitement on the floor! (If you don't know what I mean, replace the "it" in "excitement" with an "r"...!) I still remember that one of the students quickly got up, got some equipment, and cleaned up Mei-mei's "excitement". All without my asking. (I wouldn't have dared!)

So that's why you never got to see Mei-mei in person, Mabel. I was too embarrassed to bring her to school anymore! ;)

Oh, Jon, I'm so so sorry. I know how much you loved her. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous, and I too wish I could've met her.

Thanks, Amy. I think Mei-mei would have liked to have met you, too.
